If I didn't know better, comparing pictures of Doodle and Sonny, I'd say there is a genetic tie there. They both have the same color, withers, and sloping hind end. However, given that Hey Poquita is a full Thoroughbred, and Sonny .. isn't... it might be a stretch. Sonny has a good bit of Thoroughbred blood back there, but nothing that goes to Doodle- who is by Meadowlark. (Sonny actually is halter bred up to his non-existent nuts. Doodle was bred to R-U-N.)

T also informed me she has a HOG for sale. No, not Harley Davidson. And no, not a HOG like you put in the freezer, either. It is Jamie Jackson's "Horse Owner's Guide to Natural Hoof Care". Packed with valuable information, this copy is in very good condition. Dear Husband and I have enjoyed reading this book as well, and would recommend it (along with many others,) for owner's who wish to understand more about hooves and trimming. Email me for more info, and I'll connect you with the Infamous Mizz T. Price is $15, plus $5 shipping.

This morning was interesting. One of the things taking up time this past week was harvest time. Our Scuppernogg grapes are ready to be picked, and pick we did. (Not all of them though- we only got about a quarter of the vine done. That one morning's harvest netted us two five gallon bucketfuls, plus a gallon or two that didn't quite fit in the big buckets.) Yum. Homemade grape jelly from a vine that has a history of 200 years in Johnny Reb's family. Talk about HERILOOM!!

At any rate--- Johnny Reb spied Sonny out for a bit of morning grass this beautiful day, and popped out to slip his big red pal a couple of treats. The SECOND Sonny heard "Carrot Man's" voice, he hauled butt over to him. (He isn't MY horse. Nope. Belongs more to Pop and Cub than me...) After Johnny Reb gave Sonny his treat, he went over to the grape vine and picked a couple grapes. Which he of course, shared with Jo the Wonder Nanny Dog. (Doesn't everyone have a grape eating dog?) Seeing the dog- his LEAST favorite animal on the Planet- get a treat had Sonny heading over to investigate. Johnny Reb being the generous soul he is, he shared with Sonny too. We didn't think he'd eat the grapes. But he DID. Two handfuls of grapes. Darn horse loved them. He stood there, with his eyes half closed, sucking on his tongue, savoring the flavor. The rest of the grazing time, he spent trying like crazy to get back over there, to pick himself some more grapes. Goofy horse.

It is now Sunday. There is a slow drizzle coming from the sky this morning, and everything (at least for the moment) feels very low key. Sonny is eating hay in the shelter, the kids are actually quiet for the moment, and the world around us seems calmer. (That's got to be an illusion of some sorts. It's NEVER calm around here.) Last night, I had dreams of riding. Not just any horse, but Sonny. Of course, it seems that my purpose in riding Sonny is going to be training him for Cub... but at least it'd be riding, right?Have an awesome day out there everyone!

hey, that is great that sonny likes grapes! ours are about ready, and the bees have been enjoying them the last few days. they have seeds in them so i don't care much, but i did try offering some to baasha (they are growing on his stall afterall) and he touched them with his nose and said "phooey! people food!"
geez, you never know what he will try and what he will refuse. yesterday i was drinking tea by the pond and he approached me, and stuck his tongue in my mug several times, enjoying the flavor or almond apple tea. but it was HOT!! so he stopped. but still, weird.
now we have apples finally, and thanks to blogland, i learned how to freeze them this week. that means the potential for apples all year for my baby!
good times all the world around, with harvest time.
and though we don't have thanksgiving here, we have erntedankfest, which means "harvest festival" where people celebrate what their gardens have produced.

There are worse things in the world than training a horse for you kid. Besides...I get the impression that while you might not like you admit, you do enjoy a project.
Sounds like Sonny Bunz is gettin' there, starting to mend, Yay! Mmmmm, grape jelly or preserves! Yum, Although, grapes are not good for dogs, found that out quite accidentally when our dogs used to beg for grapes, Ooops! Anyway, glad Sonny is mending, not bad for four or so weeks since his accident, although, it was more like an on purpose, have you found out who may have cut the fence yet?
I really like the tone in this post. It was peaceful and things have been pretty crazy around our command central. BTW- Sonny and Cub are so cute together
Glad that Sonny is on the med and that you're getting a little relaxation in - how did it come to be that the best moments in the day are the ones where nothing is happening? The grapes sound delicious - lucky you!

Either way, he's stunning.
*smile* I love imagining Sonny sucking on the grapes for flavor. So cute!
So how long's it been since you've ridden? Can't be as long as me now, eh? This month is NINE months! Weird, huh?
I have a desire to ride, but as I approach the serious thought of riding in my head, a roadblock sits in the way...and I turn around and head the other way. I don't know when that road block will be gone, but for now I'm ok with it.
So, what's holding you back (besides Sonny's injuries)?
