I'm Hiding Inside In The AC

Yep. I am. It is too hot out to breathe, never mind try and trim any horses. With the heat index rolling close to 115* out, my Northern-bred self just can't handle that. Instead, I took a moment to read. Know how long it's been since I've been able to sit down and read? Too. Long.

This time however, I enjoyed a complimentary copy (ie: I got a wonderful hardcover book with a request to read and review it- no money for this) of Sophie Littlefield's newest book: "A Bad Day For Pretty".

Not a horse in it. Anywhere. Which actually is OK, because sometimes, every now and again, it is kinda nice to NOT think "horse".

I'll start right off, and say I loved the book. It was a quick read, a comfortable read, that caught and kept my attention. The main character, Stella Hardesty, is a tough old bird. Who is realistic. So many times, the leading ladies are flawless, with no aches and pains, no "war wounds", and no concept of Real Life that it makes me walk away from the book with a quickness. That didn't happen here. Stella "Dusty" Hardesty is a woman after my own heart. She's *real*. She's been wounded- both physically and emotionally. And she has survived and prospered.

No non-horse book would be complete, at least in my eyes, with out some mystery, some sparks, and lots of laughs. A Bad Day For Pretty has all of those and more. The other characters included include a lanky lawman, a spitfire assistant and her adorable tot, a neighboring teen who is a pisser, and a dog. And a great big biker dude that reminded me of a few great big biker dudes we've known over the years, too.

Would I recommend it? You betcha. Whole heartedly. In fact, the person who leaves me a comment and tells me what they do to cope on insanely hot days, I'll pass the book along to you to enjoy as well!

I don't blame you one bit for staying inside. We have friends who live in SC and they've been telling us just how hot it has been. Ugh!
Stay cool!

Yuck. Heat. I'm chocking just thinking about the heat and humidity.

Loved my copy of A Bad Day for Pretty, too. I thought about passing it on, but Ash has it now and then a friend of hers has dibs on it and then the new gunsmith apprentice is in line with it. I think somewhere along the line, Mom will steal it...so you see my problem with passing it on to a follower.

My solution for the heat? The mountains! A 3k increase in elevation does wonders for the heat.

Sounds like a great book!
Unfortunately we have been stuck in a wet, rainy pattern forever and I totally forgot what the sun looks like, let alone the feel of the heat on my skin. But if I ever get the chance to feel that heat, I would go take a quick drive to our neighborhood river with the pups in tow, jump in for a swim. I would also probably take a lawn chair down, set it in the river and just relax. But that is only if we ever see the sun again......

Heat? What's that? We had fresh snow on the mountain this morning.

However, last June I was in FL and I coped by running the a/c down to 65*.
(I didn't have to pay the bill!!)

Coping with hot days? I can think of several of the hottest days I've experienced in my life reaching and surpassing triple digits. What was I doing? I was either at a summer camp learning marching band drill or out pulling hay bales out of the field. Smart, I know. Lots of water and gatorade to drink, a cool wet towel on the neck helped.

Hahahaha-These days, I find myself 'playing' in the irrigation.

I swear, I have not been able to sleep for the last 3 days. I keep dreaming of that stupid irrigation...Arrgggghhhh!

Chris told me to go down to the irrigation store and have them help me design a better system. I suppose I will, however I really don't think it is going to matter until we get this field tore up and replanted this fall. It's a mess, full of weeds and in desperate need of fertilizer. But, there is grass here and there, so if I can just keep it green and growing, it helps cut the hay bill.

Oh, and if I ever get that battle won, I will be moving into the new house during the heat of the day...you know, fixing all of that stuff up...the floors, the carpets, the walls....on, and on...and on...LOL.

I still haven't done the review of the book I read. Glad it's you having that responsibility again and not me. LOL

Would you send some of that heat this way? I am freezing my b*tt off!

I turn the fans on high and read a book with my bare feet in a pan of ice water. If that doesn't cut it I load the dogs and cats in the truck and take a drive with the AC on max.

Sounds good, I'd melt down there for sure......I wish I was more of a reader myself, just never found anything to keep my interest, have started many and then gave up, LOL!

Well you know I live in SC so it's got the same temps as you right now.
What do I do to beat the heat?
I go somewhere even hotter....I've just deployed here to the middle east.
I'm sitting here in Qatar waiting to forward deploy.
Yay for me.

Sorry my blogger stuff has been spotty - just super busy with stuff right now. If I am not commenting I am still reading....just short on time. But I loved that review.

It's AC all the way here in this heat! We hit 90* today and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter and more humid. Almost reminds me of Tenn! Went to the lake to work on the lake house and it was even hot there but I didn't have the time or the bathing suit with me. Should've gone skinny dipping but it would have scared the neighbors so I didn't!
