Ok, so it wasn't a locomotion incident. I *was* walking just fine. Fine enough that the Locust Brothers and I were busy today -- the peas went in the garden, we contemplated where to put some taters, and we had a nice hour and a half long session of "pony time". It was *after* all of that fun stuff.
And by the way-- I wish I had my camera with me this morning while in the garden-- DAT was a fantastic helper. She pounced my hand while pulling grass and weeds out of the way in the garden, and she even took the time to lay on the massively sprouting radishes to quality check them. Nothing like a stealth boop from DAT to keep the day lively..
On to the locomotion issue. It wasn't a locomotion issue THEN. Sure as hell is NOW though, since *after* pony time, we headed into the house. There are stairs leading into the back door. I wanted to save myself a bit of cleaning time (WHY is beyond me, as the children, dog and DAT don't bother to wipe THEIR paws or knock the dust off,) and I decided that *I* would knock the dust off.
Stomped my left foot, dust went flying, and all was peachy. I could see a clean-ish sneaker. Stomped my right foot once- twice- thrice and SLAMMED my big toe into the support under the damn stairs. WHA---BAM.
Guess what.
I know lots of wirty dords that I can say all to myself. What came out was a lot of "FOXTROT!" and "Holy Mother of Freaking Foxtrotting Misery!" and the like. That was about 6pm. By 7:30, the swelling was impressive, and bruising is already setting in up along the top of my foot. Now, I bruise, but it takes a good bit these days to leave a mark. Swelling.. meh.. I can deal with that. Bruise? Yeah. We got an issue, especially when one pops up that quickly.
No, I am not going to a doctor, and no I will not be complaining about it too much. Walking funny yes. Skipping some trims, yes. Kicking the kids... well, I wouldn't do that anyways, cause the little buggers A) are too damn fast these days for me to connect with and B) they are now big enough to kick BACK. (Yes-- that last bit? J-O-K-E. There is no kicking in the house.)
So, as a Note To Self and note to you, faithful readers, don't go jamming your toes into solid objects. I'll save you the lesson, and tell you it is dastardly painful and honestly not all that amusing.

Been there, done that, broke the toe. Sympathy ouches to you.
Oh, my. I do things like that all of the time. I won't say it's funny... but funny that we are alike in that way! Find your stiffest-soled shoes. They'll help stabilize the toe... along with some tape!
Oh, and ice...and elevation (yeah, like we have time to sit with our foot up on a pillow like some sort of princess...right?!
Good luck!
You work with horses, getting kicked by them is a daily possibility. Kicking YOURSELF to the point of injury, ummm, not so understandable. Funner, though ;)
Bill
Ouch!!! Jumped out of bed one night to check a sick horse ,I made it past the dresser , toe did not!!! Hurts like all the fireworks you can think of! TApe the toe to the next one to stabilize it and ... well feel better soon.
BTW I don't use foxtrot , my word is "Firetruck"
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.
I am so sorry.

Yup. You just reminded me to keep my shoes on when the weather starts warming up. I break a toe just about every other spring, so I'm due. Hope you heal up fast.
Thankfully I have never done that too my foot/toe before, I just have horses that run over me and break those toes!
Today I had issues shutting a stall door (out in the mare barn, which is older and they don't slide very nicely) and it wouldn't budge. So I grabbed it with both hands and the door decided to go the other direction which slammed 3 of my fingers between the door and the beam. My fingers were stuck and I couldn't get them out nor would the door slide in the correct direction. I almost had to scream for help. I somehow managed to save my fingers and within minutes I had a lump on one of the fingers and it was black and blue. The joys and pains of horses!
Hope you are pain free soon!
What's worse than ONE broken toe? FIVE broken toes....on the same foot.

I second all that. Hope you get your locomotion back soon. Tell OS to keep those aliens in her neck of the woods.
One time I stumbled UP a step with a laundry basket. No one took me seriously as I was crying and moaning. However when it turned black and green they felt bad!
My mind just couldn't get past the word 'dust'. You have dust? You have dust? I have mud. I think I will always have mud.
Wait, you don't care. you say. You have a broken toe? I did that too and I know it hurts like hell. Crazy how it can hurt. Ok, I am past the dust and feeling bad for Mrs. MOm now. Get well.
Duuude OUCH!! I've stubbed the everloving bejeesus outta mine and that hurt enough. Doing it hard enough to break? FOXTROT (whooooole lotta foxtrottin would be coming outta my mouth)
Had soft tissue damage on my left foot when I fell off and got hung up. That still bugs me somedays (I probably should have stayed on the blasted crutches a bit longer but they were interferring with my riding time). Hope you heal 100%
Ouch!!!! Heal up fast!
So far this AM it seems... kinda ok. Bruising is interesting looking, swelling is large and in charge, and if I dont move it does not throb. Trick is going to be getting a shoe ON. Ugh- dreading that... but... Cowgirl UP already, right? ;)
TJ- yep. Dust. Lots. of dust. We are on the verge of another drought situation IMO. Things are dry dry dry down here. I wouldnt complain if some of your rain made it our way.
Paint Girl-- OMG-- be careful and take care of that hand!!
Thanks for the well wishes from everyone too. Bill go hug your Bionic Cowgirl from me ;)
Awww, that sucks!
Well, don't do that! Quit channeling me!
Ow--I've done that before, but nothing hurt as bad as the time the pony used my foot as a spring board. I couldn't put a boot on for a month. Ponies are not light! Hope you don't have to miss too many trims!
oh, i'm right there with you. last year I was simply walking barefoot by a big table and I accidentally kicked it, hard enough that I'm pretty sure I broke a toe. I mean - HOW does somebody do this?? the pain was almost as bad as the embarrassment.
next time i'm going to try out the 'Holy Mother of Freaking Foxtrotting Misery' - i like that.
hope yours heals fast!

That's it, I'm sending you down some bubble wrap.
Well this is really going to put a crimp in your tap dancing world tour I was working on. ;)
Feel better soon!
I have done it too. Also broke a toe and it took 2 years to heal.
