Bits of Randomness

Are you KIDDING me Blogger? I've been trying for 30 minutes now to add photos to this post. Do YOU, Blogger, need a RASP ENEMA?? HMmMMMMM?

Apparently we are doomed to a post sans photos. Dangitall. I'll do my best to illustrate with words for you though, so maybe at least some interesting mental images may arise.

First up on the Random List:
Murphy had her spay yesterday. Yes ladies and gents, our sweet little farm dog mascot has been thwarted from reproducing. Trust me on this-- that is a Very Good Thing. Cute she is indeed. Bright? Not so much.  (Or as they quip often here in the Southland, Bless Her Heeeaarrrt!)

Our beloved small animal vet sent her home with a Cone of Shame. Which I promptly took off once we arrived home. Yes yes, I did contemplate leaving with out the mean thing on her little head, but as soon as she plonked down at my feet she went right for the sutures. Since I was alone in the retrieve the dog from the vet duties, the added device was able to keep her contained and prevent suture removal in the truck.

We attempted to put her to bed in her crate with it on last night. Can we just say... FAIL? The Cone of Shame was too big to fit into the crate with Murph, so I was forced to improvise. Sanitary napkins, ace bandage and duct tape. Those three items can fix ANYTHING.Convincing Murphy she could WALK with her improvised cover in place though was HIGHLY entertaining. She'd bow her little body to one side or the other, try to take two steps and promptly fall right over. Poor little thing took about 20 minutes last night to make it from the kitchen to the couch. (Trust me- The Asylum is NOT that large.) I am a mean, MEAN Mommy because I Laughed. My. Butt. Off. at her. Poor little thing. But, the good news is Murph left her incision alone all night long like a good little short bus riding winda lickin puppy. Currently she is at my feet, happily gnawing a hoof cookie into submission. And leaving her tender belly alone. Goooood puppy!

Next up on the agenda, a HoneyMare update.

HoneyMare is going to get herself a new nickname. Wild-eyed crazy biotch has come to mind a time or three. Apparently, the massage, hand walking and supplements are doing HoneyMare some good as she has turned into a raving lunatic (not really- just a big B-I-T-C-H) at feeding time. Bad HoneyMare, Bad Bad Bad. Ears pinned FLAT back to her skull, neck stretched (yay! She can Stretch Her Neck!!) as far forward as she can reach it, eyes bugging out of her head, she trots back and forth in a big floaty trot (yay!! She can TROT!!) obsessing over where the hay will go and stressing herself over whether or not Lutin is going to get to it first.

Now I have to laugh. She can posture all she wants to Lutin. Frankly, he looks at me, looks at her, looks at me, shakes his head (flipping his lovely mane about) and he takes what he wants when he wants it. He has proven to be a benevolent dictator however, and has not once injured HoneyMare in the meal time shuffle. All he has to do is move her way, flip an ear back, shake his neck and HoneyMare high tails it out of the way. For my part, I protect her at night when she needs to eat her supplements, and there are usually 4 to 5 decent sized hay piles scattered all over the paddock for them to choose from. It seems the scattering of the hay not only gives them distance from one another but it encourages additional movement. HoneyBitchMare is looking better, moving better, and.... well her behavior sucks of late but this too shall pass.

Next up on our agenda, is MiKael. Still in the hospital, still weak but hopefully gaining. I know how hard this is going to make everything for her and husband Dave, and I'd like to help somehow. Mikey said collecting donations via PayPal might be a good thing, so I am now throwing the idea out to all y'all- what say you? Care to chip in so MiKael might have something to fall back on once she is released? Email me and let me know. (swequine@yahoo.com)

And last but in NO WAY least...

A gathering of horse bloggers.

In Colorado.

High in the mountains, with fresh sweet mountain air... stunning scenery... amazing trails to ride on... absolutely incredible food.... hosts that will warm your heart and soul in an instant... and a Lodge that is more like a true HOME than any commercial venue ever could be. Yes, it is almost THAT time again. High Country Rendezvous at Allenspark Lodge, Allenspark CO. August 4 through 7. Hit up GunDiva's blog for all the pertinent information.  Will Mrs Mom and Mr Mrs Mom be there? Sadly, we don't know yet. But there WILL be some fantastic folks there to meet and greet! I can guaran-dang-tee that the food will be amazing, company outstanding, views spectacular, beds cozy and comfortable-- it's the stuff dreams are made of. Now, if indeed we can not make it out, I have a request. Please, someone, give Juanita and Bill a HUGE hug from me, rub Lodge Dog Sophie's belly from Mr Mrs Mom, and RIDE THE TRAILS for me. Pretty please. With lots of Lutin Kisses on Top.

That about does it for today's randomness. Everyone have a wonderful weekend, cover lots of ground on your trusty steeds and remember- come back and blog about it!!

Happy Hoofin'
~MM

Poor Murphy! But, she'll get over it.
Sounds like you've worked you magic on Honey. Lutin is a treasure.
Good to hear that MiKael is on the road to recovery.

Hey, thanks for all the praise - now I suppose you expect us to live up to it. Really, really, really want to see you here, but totally understand all that's happened.

Keep up the good work with "the MARE". Mares have a reputation you know. Obviously Lutin has it figured out! What a great little guy he is for you. Jesse is back to normal-for her-and rowdy as ever.

So sorry about Mikael; talk about a tough year for her. All our prayers to help her through.
Love you guys,
Juanita

Poor pup - anything neccessitating THE CONE is bad news!

As for HoneyMare - too funny that Lutin doesn't care about the dramatics :)

Hating the thought of missing HCR this year with Mom's health - hope you DO get to go... because everything you promised, it definitely lives up to!

Poor Murph.

What are you gonna do about HoneyMare's poor dining room manners? I can't see you tolerating that for very long, as I *know* how much you love ill-mannered horses.

HCR's going to be a blast this year - we're riding up to Ouzel Falls (I think) or maybe Calypso Cascades. Somewhere, anyway.

Didn't get much of a ride in today - Queen Estes was busy mowing the side yard and just looked so blasted happy I couldn't drag her away to work. So, when it was time to take her back to the pen, I hopped on bareback - shorts, flip flops and all - and rode her back to the pen. I haven't ridden even one foot in shorts since I was a kid. Next week I'll make her work.

Oh good it isn't just me that bloggernhates. I'm fully convinced that dogs are here for us to laugh at :). Did you see my post on how I kept Tess from slipping through the fence? Exactly! Yeah for your cover. I will have to keep that in mind when I get Tess spayed in a couple of months n

The cone of shame? Oh how I hate those things. I have never seen a dog so sad that he had wear one like Diesel broke my heart to see that look in his eyes. That "I don't care" look. Glad he is healed and back to his normal self. Murphy will be too faster than you think.

I saw that too - sounds so fun. But alas I sooooo don't have the money for such a trip. So I will be wish everyone fun from Washington!
