I blink, and when my eyes open there it is- staring me in the face. New Year's Eve. A blog that has sat neglected for almost a month.
Christmas came and went, with the usual wrapping paper induced insanity. Santa was good to all of us- unless you talk with Jo the Wonder Nanny Dog. If you ask her, Santa was stingy because she did not get a special extra comfy old lady dog bed, a side of beef just for her, sausages just for her, OR her bacon that she asked for. Jo is miffed with Santa.
Lots of folks are taking a look back at 2011, reviewing their goals and planning for 2012. Looking back this year though- well, I'm going to skip that. Instead, I'll be thankful for Phat Boy making a Grand Entrance into our lives on a permanent basis this past March, for Merp the Derp arriving in April, for Fishy (because he is SO dang entertaining), and for the rest of the good things that have happened.
If we look to hard at the bad, or what was left undone it only drags us down. Onward and upward, as they say.
In Other News:
The Horsie Shuffle was once again done this week. I'm tellin y'all--- there IS a sizeable farm in our future SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW so that this horse re-arranging does NOT have to go on. Back to the reason for the shuffle this time.
Big Kahuna came back to Auntie Mrs. Mom's Get Fat Camp. Due to circumstances beyond his control, he dropped weight. (For those of you who suspect a story here, there is one. However, I am not at liberty to discuss the story, nor do I feel this is the time for such discussion. However, continue to read on for some generalized tips and suggestions.)
Tatertot went to a month long play date with a friend of mine's gelding. I hear he is already being spoiled ROTTEN and now has an affinity for Candy Canes. This lady said, "He is great! I've never, in all my time with horses, EVER had such a calm introduction! Tater is awesome!" Yep. Little Dryer Shire is winning hearts already.
Phat Boy was quite ticked with the change in routine. He was the boss of Tater but in no way shape or form is he the Boss of Kahuna. Not a happy pony. But-- he is adjusting. He'll live for a month.
Now, just for the record....
-If you have to either move your horse to a new facility, OR new management takes over your facility, and you get a not so good gut feeling? Listen to it.
- If you observe condition issues that are not resolved promptly with polite discussion, pay attention. Plan alternative arrangements for horse keeping should a move become necessary.
- Document. Everything.
- Take pictures. Lots. of. pictures. With current dates on them.
On the upside to all of this Kahuna now has HIS Person. A wonderful young lady whom he adores and clicks with wonderfully. Kahuna will be here for roughly a month, to pack on as much weight as we can for him. He has had two full days of Auntie Mrs. Mom's Get Fat Camp diet. Four time a day feedings, with all the hay he can stuff himself with will help hugely. In a month, we'll see a big difference in his condition.
The question is.... will Tatertot have himself a new fan club in a month's time, as well as a new place to hang out? Or will he get to come back to The Asylum to finish his education and entertain my herd of menfolks? I guess we will have to wait and see!!
In the meantime folks, have a WONDERFUL New Year. We sincerely wish each and every one of you an amazing 2012, that is filled with health, wealth and happiness. Live each and EVERY day to the fullest- live each and every minute to the top!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year to you and yours as well!! I'm so on board with skipping the year in review and the onward and upward! Here's hoping that 2012 is great for all of us!!
A wonderful 2012 to all of you, and good to hear from you again.
So glad to hear from you, Mrs Mom. I'm glad all is (relatively) well. Happy New Year! May 2012 be a great year for you and yours.
May 2012 bring your Asylum some sanity, some relaxation and whatever else you've been hankering for.
Happy New Year to you and your'n also. Onward and upward, indeed!
I was about to send out the posse, you've been MIA for quite a while! Thanks for the card, by the way. Due to circumstances beyond my control I didn't achieve many of my horse goals this year but over all it was pretty good.
Hope you have many blessings in 2012!
Happy New Year to all of you! You're super busy there, as always! Hope this New Year is even better than the last :)
Happy New Year!!
I don't mind looking back. I learned a lot this last year and am most excited to get back at it in a few months. I feel like I am starting the year way ahead of the game because the weather has been so wonderful and I got to ride the entire month of December.
On my recent trip to Florida, where I once again experienced tall pines, mugginess and bugs... I thought about you and wondered just where you had been!
Glad you are still 'out there'!
Have a fabulous New Year!
Happy New Year, and so glad KAhuna , has a place to go to get better, however it happened , you are his saviour
I am glad Big K has his very own person. My red-head is learning that food is plentiful here. I am glad it is, as it is late and I'm making a wee hours run to the airport to return a certain Doodler to her mother. I will get home long after the sun comes up and probably sleep until noon.
Then the plan is to play with my new red-head and talk to her about a future boyfriend. I think I should see what she has to say about it and what sort of boyfriend she might like. Ok, as long as he's big, black and hairy, she gets input. Although, my heart goes pitty pat at the sight of a certain tall, golden blonde boy here in the state. Remind me to show you later. :)
Off to drink another bucket of coffee before I have to go! Catch some z's for me, pretty please!

Finally - I was beginning to worry!
Over the past year I pondered your example of tending to the heels and not attacking to toes so much. I spent time scrubbing and treating frogs, even those that didn't look sick but were accompanied by long toes. Bigger frogs, wider heels, and naturally shorter toes were the result. Thanks so much!

Good to hear from you! Hope 2012 is a bit better for y'all.
Hope your year is better than last - and yes I pray that there is a farm for you and your family and critters somewhere in your future. If not you and I and our critters can move up to Canada and move in with CDN. :-)
Those are stellar tips and ones that I employ on a daily basis. I tell others to do it too, and they ignore me. I'm glad we are of a same mind- and people should LISTEN to us!
Glad you came up for air- we was amissin ya!
Happy New Year!
Hope you are enjoying the new year! Oy. I am so not into worrying about facilities for our babies. Makes me fret. I have to have them right next to me. Control freak thingy. Then I know if they get a gnat on them.
