Look Out Baby, Momma's Gonna Vent

WARNING:

If you enjoy the new tradition that is apparently obliterating Christmas, then you don't want to keep reading.

If you follow along with the current trend of saying, "HAPPY HOLIDAYS", then you don't need to keep reading either.

If you are easily offended, or worry about offending someone easily, then you are REALLY in the wrong place because *I* believe we all have the right to BE offended. Free speech and all that jazz. Be an adult already-- think for yourself. Don't like something? Then WALK. AWAY. Find something you DO like and participate there. Just like I am protesting the Thought Police taking away my RIGHT to express myself through a giant MERRY CHRISTMAS.

For those of you who are left, thus begins my rant.

I do not have a Holiday Tree.
I do not send out Holiday Cards.
I do not wish people a HAPPY HOLIDAY, attend HOLIDAY PARTIES, or participate in HOLIDAY SALES.

I have a CHRISTMAS TREE. Sure- it's a cute little Charlie Brown type tree, but it is still a majestic CHRISTMAS TREE.

I send out a few CHRISTMAS CARDS. Yes, they usually say MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR in there-- but lo and behold, it does not take me long to write that in myself.

I wish people a MERRY CHRISTMAS.
If I go out, it will be to a CHRISTMAS PARTY.
And if you think you will get my hard earned money by promoting your Holiday Sale (Hundai is on right now, as I type, as have been Dodge and a few other big companies pushing the HOLIDAY bullsqueeze).. well y'all got another think coming.

And can you BELIEVE there are companies out there, for example Verizon Wireless, that FORBIDS employees to wish patrons a MERRY CHRISTMAS, even if the customer says it to the employee first?? Are you freaking KIDDING me?? I'd be SO fired, because if someone takes a moment to wish me a Merry Christmas, you're darn tootin' I'll wish it right back to them.

I've seen this thing going 'round the interwebz, saying how "I won't be offended if you choose to wish me Happy Holidays- I'm just happy you thought of me at all!"

Bah.
Humbug.

I say again, BAH. HUMBUG.

Oh sure, it's sweet that person thought of you. Right along with the Thought Police that have moved into their head-- can't risk offending someone now, can we? How dare you say Merry Christmas!!

The people that I have met and been friends with over the years would wish me a Merry Christmas, and I in return would wish them the appropriate greeting- be it Happy Hanukkah , Happy Kwanza, or what have you. No one was offended. We acknowledged each others beliefs and we both felt good about it. Hell, wish me a HAPPY FESTIVUS and I'll wish it right back to you. With a Merry Christmas in there too, of course.

What has happened, America? Are you all so afraid of offending EVERYONE that you have allowed the Thought Police to move right in and camp out in your skulls on a permanent basis now? Have you no ability to ENJOY a simple word, such as CHRISTMAS? Or are you so worried that the root of that word, the CHRIST in the season, will offend thy neighbor to the point of extreme action?

At this point, I suppose other people would profess how sorry they were for bringing religion up, and for all but screaming MERRY CHRISTMAS in this post. As you may have guessed, that ain't gonna happen.

Why not?

Because I believe in the REASON for this season. I believe we are still a CHRISTIAN nation, for a little while longer anyways. I believe that CHRIST has His place in this celebration, in my heart, and in my home. I believe that allowing yourself to be censored by the Thought Police is disgraceful and a shame to His memory and the entire season.

Did I offend you? Good. Maybe you'll mull this over a bit, and decide for yourself whether or not CHRISTMAS is such a horrible word.

But for now, I'll wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS. May the reason for this entire season be still in your heart and life. May you prosper in the new year to come in health and wealth. And may you find the courage to kick the Thought Police out of your heads and homes, and think on your own again.

You rock! I won't go in stores that advertise Xmas sales, if they are afraid of putting Christ in Christmas, they don't get my money- not just at Christmas but all year long. I have a fridge magnet that stays up all year that says "Keep Christ in Christmas"-
because He is in my heart every day, every night, all year long.

Yup. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I celebrate Christmas, so I will wish you a Merry Christmas. If you don't like it, you have a couple of options...smile and nod, politely wish me a happy/merry whatever holiday or walk away.

I was in a couple of stores over the weekend and the cashiers actually said Merry Christmas. Made my day because I definitely remember being told not to say Merry Christmas when I worked in retail...I did it anyway!

I agree 100%!!! Merry Christmas!!!!! Oh and I worked retail for 18 yrs and I always said Merry Christmas! No one ever complained and my company was all for it! There aren't many companies like that anymore. Sad.
